The Diary of a Snow Day

As a teacher this day is like Christmas morning. The anticipation begins as soon as the winter weather is predicted. Waiting all night and waking up extra early just to turn on the local news station and waiting some more because your school is usually the last on the screen. That's right people...a snow day. :) Don't get me wrong I LOVE my job and my sweet second grade students, but even they are chomping at the bit for the slightest chance of a SNOW DAY. Just typing those words brings joy to my heart so I will type them again....SNOW DAY!

A few weeks ago Lucas experienced his own very first snow day. Not only was mommy off but so was daddy. That is a double awesome SNOW DAY!

"What is that AMAZING stuff outside mommy?"

"You mean we get to stay at home and play all day?"

"This is the best day ever!"

"I think we should go back inside..this stuff is cold and I can't move my arms."

Drumstick Dash

Katie and I braved the cold to participate in the Drumstick Dash on Thanksgiving morning. The proceeds went to the Roanoke Valley Rescue Mission. It was so much fun. Lucas fell asleep as soon as the gun went off and stayed asleep until we were almost through.

warming up at a coffee shop before the race began

Someone forgot her child's gloves and made her sister freeze her hands off so Lucas would stay warm.

8 months

I really wrote this post when Lucas was 8 months but forgot to post it!

Lucas, you turned 8 months old today!
You grow so much every month.
You weigh 22 pounds.
You are eating all kinds of new things these days. We usually let you taste whatever we are eating. You really LOVE yogurt melts. You would eat the whole bag if I let you.
You are SO close to crawling

You can get into position and push backward but you haven't seemed to figure out how to go forward yet. You said your first word last week. It was Dada :). This month you trick or treated and went to the pumpkin patch.
EVERYTHING goes in your mouth. There are no exceptions.
You are growing so fast! I can hardly keep up! We love you!

Fall Family Fun

One Sunday in November we decided to do a little fall photo shoot. It was a pretty day and all the kids looked adorable in their Sunday best. Then we realized just how difficult it is to take pictures of 3 squirmy kids :). We got some really cute ones though.....
lovin my boy in a sweater vest
happy Nolan
hanging with Granddaddy
Pretty Peyton
Then the fun began...all Lucas wanted to do was EAT the leaves. I am positive he swallowed some. I was not fast enough.
Our attempt at a cousin photo...FAIL. Heather and James say that Nolan looks like Charlie Brown. I totally see it here. All he needs is the little black hair on his head.

Nolan thought he would try out one of those yummy leaves.

picking up chicks at Red Robin

We went to Red Robin when Katie came home for fall break. Lucas was flirting with a little girl at the table next to us. She looked like she was about two. He is into older women ;). Any way the little girl asked the waiter if he would give Lucas a balloon like hers. He loved it so much but as soon as he got the balloon he didn't pay attention to the sweet little girl. He just wanted to eat it. He is a heartbreaker I tell ya :).

Pumpkin Patch

We took our first trip to the pumpkin patch in October. We went on a hayride and then picked out  a pumpkin. We opted out of the corn maze because it was BLAZING hot outside and this mommy dressed her child in corduroy overalls, a long sleeved shirt and a hat. Way to look at the weather report!

7 months

October 20, 2010

Lucas is 7 months old
He weighs around 20 pounds.
He flew through his 6-9 and 9 month clothing we are in need of some bigger clothes asap!
He is sitting and getting around like a pro now. If I am gone for 1 minute I find him across the room with a dog toy in his mouth. EVERYTHING goes in his mouth.
He has tasted almost all veggies and fruit along with some icecream and blue collar joes ;)
He loves all orange foods and HATES peas with a passion.
He gives big open mouth slobbery kisses all over your face.
He is so much fun. I can't wait to get home and see what else he has learned! We love our boy more each day if that is even possible. He is a blessing and our JOY :).

5 Months

August 20, 2010
Lucas is 5 months old!
He weighs around 17 pounds.
He smiles at everyone but his daddy can get him to smile just by walking in the room.
He wears mostly 3-6 month clothes and some 6-9.
He talks and squeals all the time. He is so HAPPY.
His hair has really started growing this month. We can actually style a little mohawk. It is so adorable.
When he gets excited he kicks and wiggles so hard he almost falls out of my arms,
His favorite toys are his teddy bear and elmo but he likes our faces and hands more than anything.
He can roll both ways but doesn't really have any interest in it.
He has been working in sitting up but can't really do it on his own quite yet.
He started baby food this month...he hates rice cereal but loves his veggies!
This month he went to the beach and Tennessee for the very first time.
He is consistantly sleeping throught the night now...a nice present for his mommy who had to go back to work this week :(.
He had his first ear infection...in both ears along with the croop. Poor thing he was so pitiful!

5 month photo shoot
This is what he did when I pulled out my camera... He wants to show everyone how much he has been growing!
Brandon walked in and distracted him!
